Narrow banding is not a request. It is an unfunded mandate by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) with full implementation required before the end of December 2012.
Some of your existing radios can be converted to narrow band at minimal expense. That's good news. The not so good news is that you can expect an increase in noise, a reduction in audio, and diminished range in fringe areas.
